Absolute Aromas selects only the finest quality essential oils available from around the world. This Ravintsara Essential Oil is no exception. Cinnamomum Camphora is a tall evergreen tree that was introduced into Madagascar in the early 19th Century from China. It is a different chemotype from the Chinese tree that produces camphor and its oil is high in 1.8 Cineole content. Confusingly there is another tree Ravensara Aromatica which is indigenous to Madagascar which has been confused with Cinnamomum Camphora by biologists and academics over the years. Ravensara is a Latinisation of Ravintsara the Malagasy word for âgood leafâ and was the name given to the oils distilled from both Ravensara Aromatica and Cinnamomum Camphora. The oils are both purifying but the Ravensara Aromatica has a high level of methyl chavicol in it (up to 90%) making it less safe to use.
